Virtual Workshop with NCR planning board: Water Secure NCR

Online Workshop on Water Secure NCR under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) washeld on 21-01-2022 at 11.00 A.M through Video Conferencing in the NCR Planning Board at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. 

The National Capital Region Planning Board organized this workshop to get the stakeholders perspective on a water secure NCR. Focused Group Discussion were held to achieve Water Secure NCR through planning a critical aspect of Water management in the NCR is that ground water resources are getting depleted, potentially causing further dependence on water resources from outside the region. Thus, economically poor sections of the people are being affected. 

Programme Highlights:

• Issues and Challenges to Water Security of NCR: Views of – CPHEEO, UYRB, BBMB, and NWDA
• Perspective of States (Status of Management of Water Resource): States included – Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and NCT- Delhi
• Implementation strategy to meet challenges of Water Secure NCR: Views of – NCRPB, NMCG, SPA, CGWB, IIT Roorkee, NEERI, WAPCOS, and CSE.   

The online workshop was held to discuss issues and challenges to water security of NCR and perspectives of different states on status and management of water resource. Dr Suresh Kumar Rohilla, Senior Director – CSE, was invited to represent CSE’s view on implementation strategies to meet the challenges of Water Secure NCR. He presented how water – sanitation sensitive urban design and planning can contribute to enhancing water security.
