CSE advocating FSM for non-sewered town/cities of UP at ‘Swachta hi Sewa’

Water Programme Outreach and Advocacy: Dr Suresh Kumar Rohilla, Programme Director, Water Programme was invited to talk about 'Faecal Sludge Management' at the state workshop on 19th September 2017 at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh - on Swacch Bharat Mission fortnight launch event: ' Swachta hi Sewa ' addressed by Hon'ble CM Yogi Aditya Nath as well as Mr Suresh Khanna, Minister Urban Dev. U.P state. The one day workshop was attended by 1000 officials - 653 urban local bodies and Commissioners as well as key officials from water and sanitation in U.P as grand event and major success of water programme advocacy over past 18 months. 

Principal Secretary UD, Mr Manoj Kumar announced and invited CSE to support scale-up of FSM across the state starting with 60 AMRUT towns in addition to the 4 towns that CSE is helping ULBs to prepare City Sanitation Plan with effective FSM as a model for improved urban sanitation programming in U.P town/cities.

Other speakers at the workshop were - CPHEEO Advisor, WSUP Advisory and RCEUS supporting select cities in U.P to improve their ranking under Swachh Survekshan 2018. 

CSE support was acknowledged by all other key speakers - in particular, the Country Director WSUP shared that each ward prepared SFDs in Vizag and CPHEEO who informed the audience about CSE - CSE contributions in mainstreaming reforms on Sustainable Water Management across Indian cities. 

Dr Rohlla’s presentation advocated for SFD for all AMRUT cities and non-sewered areas in particular as well as need for CSP with SFD showing required urban sanitation investment across sanitation value chain and Introduced the participants to weblink for 'Do it yourself - SFDs.
