CSE’s partners’ meet to strengthen the policies and strategies on water and sanitation in Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda

Date : February 28-29, 2024

Center for Science and Environment has been working with Ministry of Water and Environment, Uganda, Ministry of Health, Tanzania and Federal Ministry of Environment, Nigeria for over 3 years as a part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with each of the partner countries to help them strengthen their policies on water and sanitation in the rural areas. The team has been working on various scoping studies to understand the challenges in water and sanitation and has published reports on the same. To move ahead the team had conducted various capacity building programs and conducted various workshops and meetings in India and Tanzania in the year 2022-23.

Following this, the CSE team worked closely with formal working groups from the three partner countries to understand the gaps in their existing policies/strategies/framework in the water and sanitation sectors. The three working groups worked with CSE to develop joint notes identifying the areas in which the countries need to strengthen their policies/strategies/framework in the water and sanitation sectors. To discuss the notes on a larger platform, CSE held a consultation meeting on February 28-29, 2024 at Abuja Nigeria – where the representatives of the working groups from the three countries were present. On Day 1, the representatives from each country presented their views on the scopes of strengthening their policies/strategies. On the second day, the participants discussed further on the steps to bring about the changes and time line on the implementation of the policies and strategies were discussed. To make the meeting more result oriented, representatives from the development sectors like UNICEF, USAID and WATERAID were also invited.
