PRESS INVITE: Regional Dialogue on Sustainable ('green') Building Bhubaneswar December-13-2013

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), and Bhubaneswar Development Authority invites you to Regional Dialogue on Sustainable (‘green’) Building Bhubaneswar, December 13, 2013

Our aspiration for higher standards of living is accompanied by an ever-increasing gap between energy demand and supply. Plagued with the highest distribution and transmission losses in the world, buildings (domestic and commercial) in India consume an enormous 33 per cent energy.

As energy consumption continues to grow faster than the country's GDP, we are still far behind in catching up with its demand. To address this issue, India introduced the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), to make buildings more energy-efficient and help us reduce our electricity bills.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) invites journalists from Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Bihar and the North Eastern states to a Regional Dialogue which will take stock of issues of energy and waste in buildings and cities.

More specifically, the dialogue will cover energy efficiency achieved by Odisha, which is the first state to adapt and implement ECBC, along with the challenges and action plan for the region in this sector. The dialogue will also flag off concerns with handling demolition waste and debris in the wake of the destruction caused by cyclone Phailin in the state.
