20 February, 2015 Roundtable on 'German Energiewende - Lessons for India's Solar Rooftop Programme' Germany has made remarkable progress in deployment of renewable energy. This energy transformation or ‘Energiewende’ from fossil fuel to renewable energy is attributed to German policies with particular focus on feed-in tariffs. It has encouraged solar rooftop installations and as of Dec 2013, Germany had an installed capacity of 8.7 gigawatts (GW) of solar rooftop.
