Training Programme on Self-Regulation & Environmental Auditing

Centre for Science and Environment conducted a three (03) day training program on “Self Regulation and Environmental Auditing”, which is a tool to assess the status of compliance to regulatory and other requirements such as; performance of pollution control systems installed; conservation & conversion efficiency of input resources and finally for enlisting of the findings as shortcomings or gaps, to initiate corrective and preventive actions. And, results in an all round improvement in the environmental performance of the organizations.

A total of 21 practitioners (Consultants, Entrepreneurs, Engineers, regulators, and academicians) across diverse regions of India participated in this training program with a desire to built capacity within themselves for self regulation and environmental auditing.

The first day started with a brief about CSE followed by the concepts of Self Regulation, Monitoring and Data Management and gave exposure to the participants on environmental auditing-Scope & Protocol. This was followed by case studies on environmental auditing which was taken up by Dr KV Reddy, Senior Vice President, Ambuja Cement. Further, the group exercises and presentations were taken up to involve the participants and to understand their purview on the related topics.

Second day of the training began with the Concepts of Water audit and Energy Audit followed by a detailed “do it yourself” group exercise which was to understand the underlying challenges. An example for Third party compliance auditing model was taken from Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh model for to help participants understand on how to move forward for effective implementations. Later a session focused on Occupational Health and Safety Auditing-Planning, Implementation, Checking, Action was delivered by Dr A.K Chaturvedi, Director Technical, EQMS.

Third Day of the program focused on Green Rating - A tool for sectoral Audit. Later the session were undertaken by Sanjeev Srivastva- Head Env & Sustainability, Ambuja Cement on Process and Resource Auditing with details on Process, material and conversion Efficiency followed by a mind boggling class exercise. The training program ended with valedictory session, Feedback & Certificate distribution session.
