Four day training programme on Environmental Impact Assessment, Ethiopia


Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MEF), Ethiopia conducted a four day training programme on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), from 16-19 March, 2015 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Chandra Bhushan, Deputy Director General, CSE. Mr. Bhushan emphasized on the need for co-operation of India and Global South and also highlighted about the Centre. The key speakers for this training programme were Mr. Sujit Kumar Singh, Mr Nivit Kumar Yadav, Ms. Swati Singh Sambyal and Rahul Kumar from CSE.

The programme was attended by a diverse group- twenty six officials from MEF, Ministry of Urban Development, Environment Protection Authority, Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Ministry of Industry, Ethiopian Roads Authority, Environment Protection Authority, Ethiopian Electric Power, Agriculture Investment Land Administration Agency and Industrial Park Development Corporation.

Mr. Mehari Wondmagegn, Compliance Monitoring and Control Directorate, MEF, took the feedback session and appreciated CSE for its efforts for conducting a very successful programme. He conveyed that both the agencies will work together for a longer period to gain knowledge from such programmes on a regular basis. He highlighted the need to have more such programmes on capacity building of officials of the Ministry. He thanked CSE for its efforts to push for such a programme.
