Second Handholding Training for Preparation of City Sanitation Plans in Telangana state: CSE - GIZ joint training programme(s)

 

The second handholding training on “Preparation of City Sanitation Plan- Part II” for ten select cities of Telangana state was organized at Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI), Hyderabad   from 20-22 May, 2015. The training is part of 3 stage handholding process for Preparation of City Sanitation Plans. The first training was held in Hyderabad at Hotel Mariott (Click here for details)

During the inaugural address, Dr. Janardan Reddy, Commissioner  & Director of Municipal Administration, Government of Telangana, emphasized the need to develop practical and implementable CSPs in a time bound manner. He encouraged participants to take an inclusive approach by involving communities, women groups in sanitation improvement initiatives.  

The training was attended by 30 officials (municipal commissioners and senior city officials) from 10  cities of the state.  This training was for evaluating draft status reports from respective cities and review the progress on formulation of the city sanitation task force (CSTF). 

Six cities have formed/passed the resolution for the formation of the city sanitation task force (CSTF) to steer the planning processes in their cities and all 10 cities submitted the draft status reports.

The second training was focused on  informing participants on data analysis and interpretation – such as  demand supply gap analysis for technical sectors which includes (i) water supply (ii) access to toilets (iii) wastewater (iv) solidwaste and (v) stormwater; as well as issues such as municipal finance and governance for the next steps towards developing CSPs.
