At the 6th Kisan Swaraj Sammelan for Eastern and North Eastern India, held in Kolkata from October 29–31, CSE Director General Sunita Narain spoke about the growing impacts of climate change on agriculture, including extreme rainfall, crop losses and rising input costs.
She called for a shift towards low-cost, high-value farming that prioritises soil health, climate-resilient crops, diversified farming systems and reduced dependence on chemical inputs. She also emphasised the need for supportive markets and government policies to protect farmers’ incomes and strengthen agricultural resilience.
The Sammelan brought together farmers, researchers, students and activists from across India to discuss sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty.
