Why Do Cities Get Submerged?

Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Chennai… numerous megapolises and other cities in India hit the headlines every year for the wrong reasons: a single day of unrelenting rainfall brings them to their knees. Flooded roads, collapsing infrastructure and marooned citizens grab the headlines. The story is strikingly similar in many cities in other countries, especially in the Global South – Rotterdam, Kampala, Accra, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Lusaka…

The reason? A cocktail of mindless urbanisation and unprecedented and extreme changes in rainfall due to climate change.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) invites all to its global webinar on managing urban floods in today’s climate-risked world. With experts from across the world who will discuss and demystify this issue from a standpoint that goes beyond borders. We look forward to having you with us.
