Workshop on Sustainable Sanitation – Global and Local Partnerships Experiences and Way Ahead

CSE's Water Programme hosted a side event / workshop during the FSM-5 conference in Cape Town on 18.02.2019 titled Sustainable Sanitation - Global and Local Partnerships, Experiences and way ahead. The aim of the workshop was to bring together all the global partners of CSE and share their experience and the discussions for way forward.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in collaboration with Water Research Commission (WRC) South Africa organized a workshop on 18.02.2019 in Cape Town S.A. The event included CSE’s global partners working in the water and sanitation sector. They included senior delegates from WRC, BMGF, GIZ, WaterAid, WHO and BORDA. The event also included CSE’s partners working closely with CSE’s Environmental Monitoring Lab (EML) and included UKZN, UNESCO-IHE, AIT, EAWAG and Columbia University.

 


The First Session was titled ‘Mainstreaming Citywide Water and Sanitation and effective FSSM in the Global South’. In this session senior delegates from CSE’s Global Partners shared their experience and on-going work. The speakers further shared their vision of future work in collaboration with CSE. The speakers included:

  • Stefan Reuter, Director, BORDA

The Second Session was titled ‘Characterization of Feacal Sludge and Septage–Methods and Experiences’. In this session senior faculty and researchers in the field of Faecal Sludge testing shared their ongoing work, experiences of working the sector and way-forward in collaboration in CSE. Aditya Sharma from CSE’s Lab Team also shared experience and way forward for working related to Faecal Sludge testing in CSE. The speakers included:

There were presentations from other practitioners and technology providers in the sanitation space. This included Mr Grant Macintosh from Emanti Management Services and Mr Lars Schoebitz from Biomass Controls.

Two CSE’s training alumni Mr Jacob Kiliha from Ardhi University, Dar Es Salam Tanzania and Mr Francis Agyenim from IIR – CSIR, Ghana shared how they applied there learning from CSE’s trainings in SFD in their field of work.

The event ended with delegates expressing their eagerness to collaborate for future activities.
