CSE’s Green Rating Project (GRP) has for the first time carried out an independent, rigorous and transparent assessment of India’s iron and steel sector. The project was sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF), Government of India and the UNDP.The environmental ranking for 21 large steel plants is based on performance assessment of over 150 indicators ranging from design, efficiency of production process, pollution compliance, water, energy, safety to local community response.
The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), released ‘Excreta Matters’ – its 71-city study of how India’s urban centres manage their water and sewage in Kolkata on 1 September, 2012. The study focused on Kolkata's water and sewerage issues and suggested a way forward. His Excellency the Governor of West Bengal Shri M. K. Narayanan and the honorable Union Minister of State for Urban Development Shri Saugata Roy jointly released the report.
Consignment contaminated with banned dye Recently consignments of pickle from India were found to be contaminated with a banned dye Sudan–I. The dye is banned in food in most countries including European Union, Canada, US and India. The consignment, being dispatched by the Chennai office of the Spices Board of India, was being exported to Canada.
