Training Programme on Environmental Impact Assessment

Venue: CSE, New Delhi

A five-day training programme on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was conducted from 21 to 25 November 2016 by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), at CSE's main office located at New Delhi, India. There were 24 participants from various government organizations, consultants, industry experts and NGOs who were trained during the programme. The objective of this training programme was to build capacity of the participants in EIA and its various aspects from screening to decision making.

Swati Sambyal, Programme Manager, Waste Management team, CSE took the welcome session where she explained to the participants about CSE and highlighted the aim of the training and why it is necessary. This was followed by a brief discussion on the expectations of the participants from the programme. 

Some of the important topics that were covered during the training programme are Environmental Clearance Process in India, Sourcing environmental and social information for EIA and quality assurance, Forest & Wildlife Clearance Process in India, Preparation of ToR, Forest Rights and its applicability, New Land Acquisition Act, 2013, Environmental Management Plan and its preparation and sector specific EIA pertaining to Power (Thermal & Hydro), Cement, Mining and Highways.

Eminent faculty conduct various session during the programme which comprise of CSE’s internal staff as well as external experts from NABET, CPCB, World Bank, Industry and Consultants. 

All participants were satisfied with the programme and the knowledge they acquired during the programme. Many also gave very constructive feedback on how to make the programme even better.
