Integrated Online and Residential Training on Bulk Reuse of Used Water

India’s rapidly urbanising landscape is placing unprecedented pressure on its water resources and sanitation infrastructure. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), urban India generates over 72,000 million litre a day (MLD) of sewage, while the installed treatment capacity is only 31,841 MLD. The untreated wastewater finds its way into rivers, lakes and groundwater, posing serious risks to public health and the environment.

Educational institutions, hospitals, residential townships, commercial establishments and industrial campuses are increasingly adopting on-site wastewater treatment systems to manage wastewater at the point of generation. Many cities have opted for decentralised sewage treatment and reuse of ‘used water’ for purposes like landscaping and flushing, and to ease the burden on centralised STPs. When properly designed, operated and maintained, these systems can reduce pollution loads, conserve freshwater through local reuse, and contribute to circular water management.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) offers a two-part intensive integrated training programme to help do just that -- design, operate and maintain systems that can efficiently reuse used water – through insights gained from its extensive field studies conducted across Indian cities. The programme will combine policy perspectives with practical experiences, showcasing both successful and underperforming on-site wastewater treatment systems in institutional, residential and commercial settings.

Participants will gain insights and knowledge on selecting appropriate treatment technologies, designing and operating on-site systems, monitoring treatment performance, complying with regulatory requirements, managing biosolids, and identifying safe reuse opportunities, through real-world case studies, expert sessions and interactive discussions

 

 *Training fees includes costs of accommodation, all meals, training material, field visit and travel from CSE’s main office in Delhi to the training centre and back. *This training is free for government officials nominated by their departments/agencies.
