Environment Education in Action: Workshop on Green Schools Programme for District Resource Persons of Punjab

In our climate-risked world, environment education takes on a central role. It equips individuals with the knowledge and awareness to understand the environmental issues of today and the civic action skills to combat the impacts at individual and community levels.

Centre for Science and Environment’s Green Schools Programme (GSP) has been working with schools, teachers and students from across the country to foster a deeper understanding of climate change, its impacts, its linkages to contemporary environmental issues and the potential solutions and proactive steps that can be taken to address these challenges.

As another initiative in this direction, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST) under the Environment Education Programme of MoEF&CC, is organising a two-day workshop that is exclusively designed for handpicked district resource persons from the districts of Punjab to help them bolster and continue the discourses and teachings on environmental education in schools. The workshop will delve deep into CSE’s Green Schools Programme and explore the avenues it offers for environment education in schools.

THE WORKSHOP

Sessions at the workshop will focus on the following key issues and activities:

  • An introduction to India’s environmental challenges
  • Environmental actions in everyday life co-joining with Mission LiFE objectives
  • Teaching ‘environment’: GSP’s flagship programme -- GSP Audit -- that helps schools assess, improve and monitor their resource efficiency
  • Best environmental practices from model schools
  • AAETI Campus tour that would be akin to a ‘field or site visit’ – a location where participants can witness sustainable practices in action

This Workshop is open only to representatives selected/nominated by PSCST
