Background
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has been working in Uttar Pradesh since 2015 and has entered into a partnership with the Department of Urban Development (DoUD), Government of Uttar Pradesh for ‘Support for Effective Septage Management in Uttar Pradesh’ in January 2018. CSE is engaged in a state wide scale up of septage management and supporting the NMCG investment in the Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant in Chunar and a Co Treatment Plant in Bijnor.

CSE has set up a Programme Support Unit (PSU) in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) to support the state and city-level agencies in planning, creating operating guidelines and enabling frameworks. CSE also supported the roll out of the State Faecal Sludge and Septage Management Policy (2019). The state has taken the initiative of establishing Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants in more than 40 towns and Faecal Sludge Co- treatment units in more than 20 towns in the state. This is a major step towards achieving the targets on SDG 6.0 goals,SBM 2.0 and AMRUT 2.0.

Aim
Capacity building of State/Municipal functionaries involved in Implementation and Operation & Maintenance of Faecal Sludge and Co-Treatment plants.

Training Methodology
The training methodologywill follow a mix approach involving lectures, exercises, interactive discussions, video documentaries, exposure visits etc. The participants will get an opportunity to learn developing Operation and Maintenance module, Action Plan for the operations of the plant etc as part of group exercise.
