CSE’s Green Rating Project (GRP) is a flagship programme which assesses, and makes public, the environmental performance of companies within a sector in India. It aims to reduce the impact of industrial activity on the environment. It also aims to partner industrial sectors and embed sound environmental management principles into their production practices. Since its inception in 1997, GRP has rated- paper, automobile, chlor-alkali, cement, iron & steel and coal & lignite based power sector.
GRP is independent, participatory and transparent. It evaluates a plant’s life-cycle environmental impacts, from sourcing and processing of raw materials to the manufacture, use, and disposal of products based on detailed primary and secondary research, site surveys, plants’ inspections and data analysis. Data are collected from plants that agree to participate in the rating process. The plant’s performance is assessed against its peers and global best practices. GRP has been successful in bringing the best out of industries, improve the environmental regulations and the environmental and social performances of the industries. Since it is a public disclosure project, It has also been a reputation incentive for industries.

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary and secondary research and analysis on industrial environment, technology, regulations, best practices etc.
Writing high quality reports/papers/company profiles
Field and industrial visits (20-30% of time)
Interaction with stakeholders- industry, regulators, media, community
Fact based advocacy through meetings/workshops/conferences
Other related responsibilities as given by supervisor/Team head
Competencies
Understanding of environmental rules and regulations, energy, water, pollutions and related environmental, social and health issues in India.
Conversant with industrial operations, pollution control technology, pollution monitoring, compliance and new developments in the area of professional discipline.
Experience or exposure of coal mining sector will be preferred.
A team player having ability to work independently under given timelines

Required skills and Experience
The desirable candidate should have-
Minimum B.Tech/M.Tech/M.Sc/MS or equivalent degree in environment engineering or environmental science or relevant field;
Minimum 6 years for Deputy Programme Manager; Candidates with lesser experience will be considered for Programme Officer / Senior Research Associate positions.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
