Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) systems can play a critical role in translating Jharkhand’s renewable energy ambitions into tangible improvements in rural livelihoods, income and wellbeing. The challenge now is to strengthen the connection between state-level policy vision and district-level implementation, while ensuring that community-managed energy assets remain productive, financially viable and operational over their full life cycle.
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is organising a district-level workshop in Simdega, Jharkhand, bringing together government departments, village energy committees, water user groups, technical institutions, technology providers, practitioners and grassroots organisations to discuss five interconnected areas: aligning state vision with district realities, using micro/ mini-grids as income-generating energy-as-a-service models, strengthening Community Managed Solar Lift Irrigation (CMSLI), water markets and command area optimisation, improving institutional convergence; and creating local green jobs and effective life-cycle O&M systems.
These discussions will draw on community experiences, implementation lessons and opportunities for scheme convergence and financing. The workshop will bring together the community collectives managing the DRE system, user groups, practitioners, knowledge partners, government representatives, subject experts and technology providers to discuss practical and sustainable pathways for translating DRE solution into sustained income and human wellbeing opportunities.
The workshop will conclude with a field visit, connecting the discussions with on-ground experience and identifying practical pathways for sustaining and scaling community-managed DRE systems in Jharkhand.
