Powering Clean Energy Future in Western Uttar Pradesh

India has set ambitious clean energy and climate targets, including achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030 and attaining net-zero emissions by 2070. Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) serves as one of the key policy instruments to accelerate renewable energy adoption by mandating obligated entities to procure a specified percentage of their electricity from renewable energy sources.

With the evolving regulatory landscape—including the introduction of Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO), Energy Storage Obligation (ESO), the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), and increasing emphasis on distributed renewable energy- obligated entities are required to remain updated on changing compliance requirements, reporting mechanisms and upcoming technologies. Strengthening institutional understanding of these developments is essential to ensure effective implementation, regulatory compliance, and achievement of Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy goals.

To support this objective, Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), in collaboration with the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), is organizing another one day capacity building workshop in Ghaziabad, covering stakeholders in Western Uttar Pradesh. The workshop will provide participants from the region with an overview of the evolving renewable energy policy landscape, demonstrate the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) Portal, and explain compliance procedures. It will also showcase successful renewable energy interventions from obligated entities, facilitate peer learning from other states RPO compliance experiences, and create a platform for panel discussions among regulators, brokers, vendors, technical experts, and obligated entities to address implementation challenges and explore emerging opportunities in renewable energy procurement, storage, and carbon markets.
