Online Media Briefing: A World Environment Day Special Tackling Plastic Pollution

The event is complete

What is the world doing about it?

Will the forthcoming Paris meeting of the UN’s Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution give us a roadmap? Join us for a briefing with the CSE team of experts which is participating in the negotiations.

The Second Meeting of the UN Environment Assembly’s Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution will be held in Paris from May 29 to June 2, even as the world gears up to welcome the World Environment Day on June 5. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has been invited to join the deliberations in Paris.

We invite journalists to a media briefing with the CSE team which would be participating in the Meeting. Get a first person account of the scale of the plastic problem and the world’s efforts towards developing a legally binding instrument to end plastic pollution. Understand where countries – including India – stand in this war on a scourge that is threatening to choke us.

About the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution

The Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) was established under the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA), bringing together representatives from nations across the world to collaborate on the development of a comprehensive and binding instrument to tackle plastic pollution at its roots, by covering the entire ‘Life cycle of Plastic’. In the first meeting of the INC, held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, the committee had made little progress. One notable achievement was the formation of a ‘Group of Friends of Waste Pickers’, a voluntary body to ensure waste pickers are heard. The second meeting of the INC is being held in Paris, France from May 29 to June 2, 2023.
