Builders face the wrath of RSPCB

Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) came harsh on as many as 53 builders for violating norms.  The builders from Jaipur failed to seek permission from the Board to construct buildings breaching the Environment Protection Act, 1986 which requires the proponent to get a go ahead from the Sate Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) for construction  in or more than 20,000 sq m area.

National Green Tribunal: A new beginning for environmental cases?

National Green Tribunal or the Environmental Court is not a new concept. Different courts in the country have recommended the establishment of Environmental Court to take up the cases related to environmental degradation. In M.C Mehta vs. Union of India case in 1986, Supreme Court observed that environmental cases involve assessment of scientific data.

Building Operation and Construction

The Energy Audit is conducted on December 2010 for both buildings, and it is estimated that the total use of energy-mix in the buildings is optimally contributed to overall energy consumption demand. The building AAGC and Main CSE building has 98.39 kWh and 89.30 kWh sanctioned load from the grid supply respectively. The annual electricity bills for buildings, diesel and solar energy generation data collectively finds that Main CSE building’s (77%) share in total energy consumption was more than three times that of AAGC (22%) building (see Graph 01).

EIA analysis of a 4,000 MW thermal power plant (Gujarat)

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) analysed the EIA report of an upcoming thermal power plant of 4,000 megawatt (MW) in Jamnagar district of Gujarat.Mahesh Parmar of Paryavaran Mitra approached CSE to carry out a technical review of this EIA for the public hearing of the project on September 20, 2011.

UP stands up for groundwater

In what could set a precedent for groundwater regulation across India, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Ground Water Conservation (Protection & Development) Bill, 2010, recently unveiled a draft of the government’s plan to putting a price for water. The UP draft groundwater regulation bill, is the first to address big users of water – the bulk users from commercial and industrial enterprises.
