Training and Exposure Visit for Planning and Implementation of Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM)

Water Programme conducted training as a part of Training cum Exposure visit on 'Planning and Implementation of Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM)'. The training was organized in Lucknow on 17th and 18th Dec 2018.

The participants included UP Jal Nigam Officials, PDMC AMRUT, SPMG. The session was inaugurated by the Additional Director SBM-UP, MrMrityunjay followed by a keynote by Additional Mission Director AMRUT, Mr P.K Srivastava.

The 2 day class room training introduced the concepts of FSSM Value Chain and focused on interventions needed for effectively managing FSSM at a city level. The training also looked at technology options for treating Faecal Sludge and basic concepts for designing a treatment facility.

The training followed by exposure visit to Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants in Bhubaneswar and Puri in Odisha on 19th to 21st Dec 2018. The exposure visit is being conducted in collaboration with OWSSB.

The 3-day exposure visit 19-21 Dec 2018 included visit to the Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant in Bhubaneswar and Co-Treatment Facility in Puri. MrPrasantaMohapatra (Project Director, Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB)) interacted with the participants and shared Odisha's experience in designing and implementing FSTPs in the state. MrSarithSasidharan (E&Y, TSU team) shared the State Govt's FSSM strategy and initiative in mainstreaming FSSM in the state though regulations, capacity building and strengthening the institutional framework for the sector.

The visit was concluded with a visit to the Jagannath Temple and Konark Temple. The participants expressed gratitude and were inspired and motivated by the visit in implementing FSSM in their respective cities.
