Odisha has been one of the pioneering states in improving its sanitation services through the faecal sludge and septage management (FSSM) since the advent of SBM in 2014. CSE has been involved in monitoring the faecal sludge treatment plants (FSTPs) in the state since 2019. Recently, a study was conducted by EML, CSE on the monitoring and evaluation of 15 FSTPs and 1 sewage treatment plant with co-treatment of faecal sludge (STP co-treatment plant) in Odisha, which also involved re-evaluation of plants to assess their sustenance. This study is first of its kind evaluation done for the state of Odisha. The study findings included:
CSE will be sharing the findings of its study and releasing the report at a workshop in Bhubaneswar jointly organised by CSE and OUA. The workshop will focus on elaborating the findings of the study to identify and discuss on the challenges associated with operation / treatment, providing recommendations for improvement and opportunities for the reuse of generated by-products, sharing good practices, and finally discussing on the outcome and the way forward.
