Environmental Quality Monitoring in Smart Cities

Smart cities are an exercise to streamline increasing urbanization to ensure more sustainable growth of urban centres. This spin-off version of urbanization is known to improve lives of citizens through the incorporation of advance technological solutions and systems. In other words, smart cities leverage technology solutions to improve city services and living experience of residents. Smart cities incorporate recent technology types, including Internet of Things (IoT), advance embedded systems technologies and devices,

SMART (self-monitoring, analysis and reporting technology) sensors for data collection management, and big data analytics. Municipalities use these technologies and other applications together with relevant data, such as traffic congestion, energy usage, citizen safety, emergency incidents and air quality. The data gathered is analysed and used for technological solutions to improve city services such as utilities, transportation and public services
