Meeting on Global Renewable Energy and Energy Access Transformation

CSE in collaboration with Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority conducted a meeting on Global Renewable Energy and Energy Access Transformation (GREET) on May 22, 2015 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The programme was inaugurated by the Mr. Prasad Galhena, Chairman and Mr.  M.M.R Pathmasiri, Director General, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority. There were participants from the Ministry of Power and Energy, Ceylon Electricity Board, Bio-energy Association, Wind Energy Association, Hydro-power Association, Sri Lanka Carbon Fund and consultants and professors amongst others. 

 

 

Mr Chandra Bhushan, Deputy Director General, CSE gave a presentation on the Concept of GREEAT and Sri Lanka’s role in Advocacy which was followed by a discussion. Many important points came out in the discussion. Mr. Gamini Senanayake, an independent consultant, highlighted the need to switch to renewables such as solar and wind and mentioned that Sri Lanka has ample of scope to exploit solar and wind energy. Biomass is another area for alternative energy resources. Mr. Bhushan further highlighted that Sri Lanka can easily switch for 100% renewables by 2050. CSE would further continue to work with Sri Lanka on GREEAT.
