Programme Manager for Food Safety and Toxins Programme - Good Food

Food Safety and Toxins Programme Unit of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is looking for an experienced candidate as a ‘Programme Manager’ to promote ‘Good Food’ for health, environment and livelihood. The work would involve and aim:  

  • To promote organic and natural farming at the national and state level such as through appropriate policies/programmes and capacity building. This would involve identifying barriers and pushing for change across several aspects with different stakeholders to move towards chemical-free agriculture and sustainable food systems.
  • To push for regulations for pesticide use in agriculture benefits such as related to the farmer and consumer.
  • To create awareness about bad food and push for necessary regulations such as related to availability and marketing of junk foods/packaged foods, which are ultra-processed and are high in salt, sugar or fat. This would help contain the public health concerns related to obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease.

About CSE
CSE is a public interest research and advocacy organisation based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable. 

Job profile:
The candidate is expected to lead and manage the work of a small team working on different aspects of the Good food work as mentioned above. This involves policy research, advocacy, communication, capacity building and engaging with stakeholders such as policymakers, regulators, scientific community, civil society, farmers, industry and the media. The candidate will be responsible for successful completion of outputs (and its impact) which include reports, policy briefs, expert consultations, advocacy communication for stakeholders and articles for Down to Earth, CSE’s fortnightly magazine. The candidate is also expected to engage with other teams at CSE such as media and outreach and Environment Monitoring Laboratory (EML).  

Qualification and Experience: 

  • Minimum 6-7 years of relevant work experience of handling and delivering on research, advocacy and managing teams. Experience in the non-profit sector is not a prerequisite.
  • Candidates with relevant education/training in science/life sciences and writing experience would also be given preference.

  • Hard working, self-motivated and disciplined work ethic

CSE pays a competitive salary that will be commensurate with qualification and experience.
