C4Y has organized a two-days virtual #WaterSmartSolution Boot Camp from July 22-July 23, 2021. The aim of the session was to contribute in enhancing capacities, knowledge of the youths and to develop a comprehensive understanding of the water sector concerns and possible solution in the country.

In the July Boot Camps, the experts and representatives from Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), J S Water Energy Life Co, Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), UNICEF, Plan India and Tata Trust had conducted the sessions. The thrust of these sessions was: 

(i) Organisation’s Focus and Modalities of Execution of Projects/ Programmes

(ii) WASH Programme - Verticals, Focus Areas, Impacts & Partnerships

(iii) Water related Flagship Programme Insights - Water Smart & Wise Solutions Demonstrated

(iv) Key Takeaways for Youth in India - aligning with Your Strategy

Dr Rohilla started the presentation with the brief overview of the School of Water & Waste programmes and focused on the capacity building initiatives. He also stated the SWW's vision to create a water wise and waste prudent society to create a community of practice that will take CSE’s efforts forward by developing implementable solutions. He has shared CSEs journey in the domain of water & sanitation and gave his insights on issues and challenges in urban sanitation in India and Global South. He has also talked about emerging groundwater problems as well as emphasizes on different approaches of making cities water wise and water sensitive.

The presentation highlighted the approach towards Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning (WSUDP) at different intervention scales and derived the potential of WSUDP to overcome the prevalent issues/ challenges faced by the cities. It also mentioned the CSE's research on mainstreaming WSUDP in selected parks of Delhi, Noida and Odisha where one of the outcomes of this research assisted the Odisha State government in issuing the advisory/ guidelines for adopting WSUDP in parks/ open spaces. Dr Rohilla concluded the presentation with the way forward by making water everybody’s business, enhancing water literacy, capacity building & training for mainstreaming innovative policy and practice and legislation followed by strict implementation.
