Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public interest research organisation based in New Delhi. We have over the past four decades and more provided insights into why environment matters. Why environment and development are two sides of the same coin and how we must embrace strategies that are affordable, inclusive and so sustainable. We believe we must pursue the change we want in this world, our world and this is why we work to research, to communicate, to advocate for solutions and to build capacity of multipliers in society – from regulators to educators – to bring policy and practice for a green today.
We call this knowledge-based activism.
Over the years we have worked on a wide range of environment and development issues – from solutions to toxic air pollution in our cities, to water pollution and community-based rainwater harvesting. We have conducted independent rating of industries to suggest their green and low-carbon pathways and argued for an equitable climate agreement. We have analyzed food and beverage samples to build policies for consumer safety and health – joining the dots of nature, nutrition and livelihoods. You can read more about our work in our annual reports, as well as our programmatic strategy for 2025-2030.
But my message today is to ask for your financial contribution so that we can continue this brand of public interest research with independence and courage.
Our financial model is simple – we raise programme related funds for specific work we do; in addition we are building a corpus through donations for our long-term sustainability. Your contribution will be added to the corpus of CSE and it will provide us the internal strength to pursue work with rigour, commitment and without any compromise on our independence.
It is clear that our world requires public research and advocacy institutions. This is what we strive to be; all our work is in the public interest; and our most important objective is to make sure we do not break your trust in the quality or intent of our work. This is why we need your support – your trust and your funds – as these build our strength and our ability to continue to do the work we do.
The government has given CSE tax-exempt status (under section 12A of the Income Tax Act). Also, any donation you give us will be eligible for deduction under Section 80G. We will be happy to send you more details.
We hope to hear from you.
