The Indian fertilizer industry is one of the most important industrial sectors for the country. Even the Prime Minister has referred to it recently in his monthly radio broadcasts to the nation.Today, this industry stands at a crossroads. While a question-mark has arisen over the very future of nitrogenous fertilizers, the industry grapples with issues of water usage and pollution, though it does have an enviable record in energy efficiency.

Centre for Science and Environment’s Green Rating Project (GRP) has analysed and rated the fertilizer industry for its environmental compliance. Out of 32 functional fertilizer units in the country, CSE has analysed and rated 28.

We invite you to the release of this rating report. Prakash Javadekar, the Union minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and SunitaNarain, director general, CSE would be releasing the report on July 29, 2019, in New Delhi. Senior representatives from the top-rated fertilizer firms are expected to attend to collect their Green Rating Awards.

On CSE’s Green Rating Project (GRP)
For the past two decades, GRP has been at the forefront of improving environmental performance of Indian industry. It is the only public environmental rating project for industry in India that challenges Indian companies to prove their green credentials. It has,so far, rated six major industrial sectors – the fertilizer sector is the seventh in line. Its findings are highly regarded as being truthful and credible, by both industry and the government.
