Training Programme on Urban an Industrial Wastewater Treatment for practitioners, consultants, professionals, students and researchers, 6-10 August, 2012

A training programme on Urban an Industrial Wastewater Treatment was organised by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) at the Anil Agrawal Green Centre. The programme was held between 6-10 August, 2012.

The training program was divided into lectures, presentation, class exercises and field exposures. Participants gained a good idea on decentralised technologies that re used for treating domestic and industrial waste. For a holistic understanding and implementation of treatment models resource persons from CSE and other sectors were also invited who held sessions on various aspects. Speakers presented and discussed in detail about the O&M techniques for both (Industrial and domestic) purposes, thumb rules on sector specific water requirement (from requirement to generation) and attaining zero discharge with best practices case studies from across the world. Sessions also elucidated the participants on water accounting and current regulations of wastewater- Water Act and EPA etc. and water efficient fixture’s that can be practiced in urban and industrial sectors. The field exposure saw the participants learning about water analysis using instruments such as atomic absorption spectrometry, gas chromatography and water-kit for quality assessment at CSE’s laboratory. A visit to the Okhla Sewage Treatment plant also ensured on site understanding of the various discussed technologies and their implementation process.

Speaking at the feedback session, Chandra Bhushan, Deputy Director General of CSE, stressed on the need for creating more trainers so that more people can be made aware in the sector to deal with the growing issues of wastewater more efficiently in a local and decentralised manner.

The focus of these trainings was to impart skills to professionals, researchers and consultants in implementation of decentralised waste water recycle and reuse technologies in the industry and domestic sector. The training programmes was attended by twenty-six participants from various sectors- private industries, government departments, international universities and private consultants. The participant feedback was very constructive and concluded with distribution of certificates.
