What do the COP28 negotiations mean for developing countries?

The 28th Conference of Parties came to an end on December 13 with an all-agreed conclusion that several experts termed as ‘far too weak’ compared to what the science mandates to save the world and humanity.

The final draft of the Global Stocktake (GST) says fossil fuels need to be replaced with clean energy. It talks about reaching global net zero by 2050 by tripling renewable energy capacity globally and doubling the global average annual rate of energy efficiency improvements by 2030. It however ignored pleas from scientists and civil society groups urging countries to phase out all fossil fuels in a fair, funded and equitable manner.
