Industries in India are currently facing major challenges with respect to air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and lack of circularity in their processes. The large scale industrial sectors have been the center of focus being lesser in number which translates into lesser monitoring for the small and medium scale industries by regulatory agencies which are overwhelmed due to limitation of resources. However in the recent years small and medium scale sector industrial sectors have been attracting attention as many source apportionment studies have highlighted them as major source of air pollution . Majority of these industries are dependent on dirty coal as their fuel. Because of inefficient technology, huge amount of coal is burnt causing air pollution and greenhouse gas emission. If environmental performance of small and medium scale industries has to be improved innovation in practices is required such as cleaner fuel, circularity of waste, cleaner technology are the need of the hour. Small and medium scale industries are a source of employment for a large number of people which cannot be neglected as a fact and therefore these sectors require capacity building and support from government and regulatory authorities.

Realizing the significant role MSMEs are playing in the economy of the country and how important it is for them to keep operating in a long term sustainable manner, CSE is organizing a four days training programme on “Small and Medium Scale Industries : How to Reduce Emissions and Increase Circularity”. The aim of the programme is to build capacity of the participants on tools to improve the environmental performance of small and medium scale industries.  The course will expose its participants to some of the best practices happening in the small and medium scale sectors in the country with respect to both emission control and circularity.
