Programme Manager for Industrial Pollution Programme

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is looking for Programme Managers to carry forward its legacy work on curbing pollution from thermal power plants and industrial activity across India's geography. The candidate will work with sectors like the power, cement, iron and steel, fertiliser and other industry domains to analyse their performance in terms of environmental compliance, waste management, improving water use efficiency. The candidate should be willing to travel, as well as engage with key government and civil society stakeholders in order to promote environmental compliance. 

Job Description                                                                                                     

  • To document and technically analyse the environmental performance of power plants and industrial units by using relevant government data sources amongst others.
  • To prepare roadmaps, quantify progress by companies in meeting science-based green house gas emission targets.
  • To conduct qualitative interviews with power generation companies, power plant operators, industrial units, and regulators – power and environment – to gather more about the extent of pollution control technology adoption, emissions monitoring, and green house gas emission reduction.
  • To continuously track technological developments in the industrial pollution and GHG reduction space by visiting industries for surveys.
  • To engage with relevant stakeholders from industries, government, policy experts, academicians.
  • To participate in relevant conferences, workshops, training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of air quality management in industrial space in India and globally.
  • Leading a team of two to three researchers. 

Qualification and Experience 

  • Master’s degree in environmental, mechanical, energy engineering or related disciplines with at-least 8-10 years of experience in policy think-tanks or industry.
  • Familiarity with some of the energy intensive sectors such as power plant, cement, aluminium or iron and steel, understanding of pollution control technology in industries and stack emissions measurement systems.
  • Having a prior experience of working on emission assessments, air quality data analysis and data visualisation will be considered as an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills including quantitative research skills.
  • Experience in working with MS Office suite, and power BI softwares.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in engaging with relevant stakeholders from the government and industry.
