Roundtable On A Pilot Study of Ambient air Particulate Matter Source Apportionment in Delhi-NCR

Come winter and NCR is engulfed in thick smog, and all environmental agencies get overwhelmingly busy to combat this menace. As part of tackling this issue, it is important to identify the sources of pollution, especially the Particulate Matter, which is one of the major concerns of today. And it is important to identify these in real-time in order to develop appropriate control measures. And this not only hold relevant for the Delhi & NCR but to other areas in the country that are faced with the growing problem of air pollution. One of the important measures that has to be undertaken for combating air pollution is source apportionment, which helps in the identification of emission sources in a given area and in relating its impact on the quality of the air in that area.

In view of this, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) along with HORIBA Japan is jointly commencing “A Pilot Study of Ambient air Particulate Matter Source Apportionment”. The objective of the study is to identify the major air pollution hotspots and carry out sources speciation in six selected areas around Delhi and NCR. This study plans to throw light on the major sources of pollution in the study area and help in devising a specific control strategy that is targeted towards controlling pollution at source.

Additionally, the data and analysis can also be used for other relevant purposes.

The study will be conducted for three months at six identified pollution hotspots in DelhiNCR. This study will be carried out using “Real Time PM & Elemental Analyzer PX375”, which is a product of HORIBA that gives continuous analysis of particulate mass and the element with automatic sampling.

We are pleased to invite you to join the half-day roundtable for discussing scope and method of study and also to see the live operations of equipment. Your active participation in the roundtable will help to make the study more purposeful. The agenda for the programme is attached.
