School for Industrial Pollution and Governance

Work overview 

The School of Industrial Pollution and Governance has mainstreamed training as part of their effort to engage and build capacities of key change agents in their sector. The school conducts trainings and workshops range from technical and advanced trainings on Environmental Impact Assessment for students, consultants and researchers, to orientation for pollution regulators on Continuous Emissions Monitoring system (CEMS) & Continuous Effluent Quality Monitoring Systems (CEQMS) alongwith understanding on development of air quality management plan for industrial areas. The School also conducts training for industries to enhance knowledge and understanding about the challenges of pollution management from MSME sector – moving away from coal to cleaner fuels, improved combustion technologies, controlling fugitive emissions and methodologies to reduce water usage and wastage. 

The School target regulators in India and the global South who are working on issues of pollution management, monitoring and compliance. It also addresses industry stakeholders, consultants, academicians, to help in adopting resource-efficient and pollution prevention technologies and practices.

The school aims to:

Capacitate and support public institutions such as regulatory agencies in the frontline of enforcing environmental rules, monitoring, enforcement and compliance.

Strengthen the abilities of environment managers by working with public and private sector enterprises and industry bodies to influence them on making correct choices and pushing sustainable practices.

Build powerful multipliers in society by working with influential change agents in society such as NGOs to build local knowhow and to explore viable, cost-effective solutions to help communities tackle pressing challenges.

Create a future-ready cadre of change agents by engaging with students, teachers and the youth to promote holistic understanding of sustainable practices and wise environmental decision-making and prepare them to intervene effectively in the decision-making process.

Build effective communication agents to present reason and analysis to influence the public agenda on sustainability, and to integrate the vital concerns that affect the lives and livelihoods of millions into the national debate.
