The Sustainable Buildings programme of CSE organized a 3 day training programme titled ‘Sustainable Buildings for Sustainable Cities: Policies and Practices’ for the engineers and architects of CPWD – Ghaziabad. It was attended by 25 participants belonging to varied professionals fields such as civil engineering, architecture and electrical engineering. The course was conducted from 6th -8th August at the Anil Aggarwal Green College.

The Patrakar Bhawan in Pune played host to a workshop on green architecture and energy efficiency organized by CSE on November 18. The BV Rao hall was packed to capacity and had around 50 participants. Speaking at the event, Anumita Roy Chowdhury, Executive Director, CSE, said, “Our review of green-rated buildings had earlier exposed how several buildings in India are grossly underperforming after being rated green. This is dangerous as our review has exposed several green-rated buildings across the country are underperforming and guzzling more energy.”

CSE welcomes Delhi government’s draft solar policy which makes installation of solar panels on government-owned, commercial and residential buildings mandatory.
Date: December 23, 2013 While construction necessitates enormous amount of construction material that accounts for about half of all materials used, it is also responsible for generating about half of the solid waste that degrades the land and environment. Given the fact that 70 per cent of the buildings that will stand in India in 2030 are yet to be built, this environmental cost will only compound with the anticipated construction boom unless immediate steps are taken to recycle and reuse construction waste and turn it into a resource.
