Engagement with Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board moves towards state-wide implementation of sustainability guidelines

Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) takes a step forward for effective implementation of sustainability guidelines, green buildings and environmental conditions in the Andhra Pradesh Buildings Rules 2017. 

CSE had prepared sustainability guidelines for the state in the previous year comprising of energy conservation and efficiency measures in buildings at design and operation stage along with general sustainable habitat planning guidelines. Sensitization and capacity building of the urban local bodies and regulators to bring these elements on-ground was conceived as the next step. 

A meeting with Mr. B.S.S Prasad, Chairman, APPCB and Mr. Vivek Yadav, Member Secretary, APPCB concluded in a plan of action to roll-out the trainings. Andhra Pradesh has 100 urban local bodies. A regional-level training programme is scheduled to convene regulators and practitioners in urban local bodies from different districts in the coming months. 

Integration of other subjects such as air quality management, capacity building on latest policy interventions in a campaign mode and knowledge support for regional sensitization was also discussed. A meeting with Amaravati Capital Regional Development Authority and planning and developing agency, Amaravati Development Partners was held along with APPCB members.Reduction of heat island effect and enhancement of comfort through design in the new development is being explored.
