Workshop on NCAP: Improving Environmental Performance of Industries in Alwar

The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi, in collaboration with the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB), is organizing a workshop on “NCAP: Improving environmental performance of Industries in Alwar “on February 28, 2024.

Alwar city is one of the non-attainment cities, under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) launched by MOEF & CC in 2019. Action plan has also been prepared and implementation is being carried out to reduce particulate matter concentration by 20 to 30 per cent by 2024. Despite these efforts, the pollution levels in the city have not shown significant improvement. According to a 2021 study conducted by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) titled“ Industrial air pollution assessment of major districts of Rajasthan” mineral grinding emerges as a major sector contributing to fugitive emissions. Additionally, inadequate industrial infrastructure, including improper handling and disposal of non-hazardous industrial waste leading to occasional burning, along with inadequate industrial road infrastructure in some industrial areas, have been identified as factors worsening the city's air pollution.

Therefore, CSE is conducting this workshop with the aim to address the pressing issue of air pollution in Alwar, specifically focusing on fugitive emissions originating from major industrial sectors and the inadequate industrial infrastructure. Through this workshop, the CSE aims to enhance the environmental performance of industries, which will reduce the pollution loading into the atmosphere and simultaneously aligns with NCAP’s objective of clean air.

The primary agenda of the workshop is to showcase the best practices of the sector and discuss various options and pathways with the stakeholders to reduce fugitive emissions and enhance industrial infrastructure to mitigate air pollution effectively. The event will have representation from regulatory authorities, the industrial development department (RIICO), District Industry Centre (DIC) and industries.
