CSE’s plays a major role in improvising PMAY guidelines

CSE played a watchdog role for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), India’s flagship scheme for constructing around 2 million dwelling units mainly for the EWS and LIG. Since states have adopted PMAY differently, its implementation was analyzed in partner states. There are a number of issues that ail PMAY such as identification of appropriate location, no coherence between housing and urban plans, no address to resource savings, liveability and post-construction affordability, and absence of a long-term fiscal strategy among many others. This analysis built a case for national guidelines to enable quality, thermally comfortable, resource efficient, affordable and low-impact affordable housing. A status paper is underway for publishing.
