CSE is acknowledged as the pioneer of research and advocacy on the issue of Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste management in India. CSE’s initiative on C&D waste has been instrumental in getting Indian government to frame the country’s first C&D Waste Rules in 2016 and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to revise Indian Standards for aggregates to allow recycled C&D waste in concrete mix.
CSE served as an invitee member and the only civil society representative at the BIS’s Panel for Aggregates from other than Natural Sources. The third revision of IS:383 Coarse and Fine Aggregate for Concrete Specification was notified in 2016.
