NGOs to help keep city rivers clean

Pune, September 6: Studies carried out by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to assess deterioration in water quality due to idol immersion reveal that water quality has indeed declined with respect to conductivity, bio-chemical oxygen demand and heavy metal concentration. The public should be educated on ill effects of immersion in the water bodies through mass awareness programme. And use of traditional clay for idol making should be encouraged and promoted, rather than plaster of paris and baked clay, the guideline states.
