Centre for Science and Environment organized a side event in the COP21 at the India Pavillion along with the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change titled “Equity and Climate Justice: Operationalising Equity and the Global Carbon Budget.” Secretary Ashok Lavasa started the conversation claiming “Climate change is a consequence of the path of economic development chosen by the world and developing country should be denied this development.”

Workshop on Cumulative Impact Assessment Need for better assessment tool: Time to deliberate

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a leading environmental research and advocacy organization in India. For more than a decade, we are working in the field of impact assessment and capacity building of regulators, industries, consultants and other stakeholders.  Our experience says that our Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) framework has not been effective and failed to meet its objective of sustainable development. We understand that Cumulative Impact Assessment (CIA) is the right option which shall be adopted in environmental clearance process in India.

Regional Conclave cum Workshop on Excreta Management

Mainstreaming SFD and Decentralized Wastewater Treatment in Urban Sanitation Programming Date: June 28-29, 2016 Venue: Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala With increasing urban population, the sanitation crisis is growing. Even if the access to toilet has improved, the fate of the excreta generated is unclear. The conventional ways of collecting and treating/disposing waste water have failed to provide lasting solution to the water crisis we face today.

Workshop to discuss roadmap for cleaner clay fired brick production

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in collaboration with Greentech Knowledge Solution Private Ltd. (GKSPL) organized a workshop on ‘Roadmap for Cleaner Clay-Fired Brick Production in India’ on 8th June at New Delhi. The objective of the workshop was to discuss the technological and regulatory road map which needs to be developed to overcome the problems in transforming the brick sector of the country. What needs to be done and how it can be achieved?

Roundtable- Mainstreaming Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning- Challenges and Opportunities in Sustainable Development

India has witnessed a rapid increase in urban population (with expected growth rate of 2.54% population per annum) during the past few decades. Today all cities and towns are exerting pressure on water resources leading to increasing water demand and supply gap.Furthermore, this increasing urbanization in India is resulting in a heavy clamor of “built-up area” which includes residential, commercial and retail spaces.
