On the edges of India’s forests, a new and unsettling tiger story is unfolding.
Invasive lantana thickets are rapidly over-running these fringe zones, and the tiger has moved in, finding them convenient hunting grounds. The prey is no longer the cheetal, sambhar or the wild boar – these have been replaced by the cattle of the humble householder. This transformation in the tiger’s habits and habitats has the potential to trigger a fresh wave of human-wildlife conflict.
Join wildlife expert Ninad Mungi and reporter Himanshu Nitnaware in this CSE Live Chat about invasive species, rural economies, and the future of conservation – all in the shadow of the Big Cat.
