Advanced Residential Training Programme on Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning (WSUDP) - Rainwater Harvesting at different scales

Dates: November 30 - December 02, 2021
Last Date to Apply: November 23, 2021
Course Duration: Three days(24 hours)
Venue: Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI), Nimli, Rajasthan

Background
CSE - School of Water and Waste (SW&W) aims to establish policy principles, innovative technologies, and implementation strategies for city wide water and sanitation management, which will lay the foundations for a water and waste-prudent society.CSE also assists Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India as a Centre of Excellence in the area of sustainable urban water management aimed at mainstreaming reforms and capacity building of state/city official and published - A Practitioner’s Guide on Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning (WSUDP).

Both centre/ state governments and local bodies have included WSUDP concepts in programmes, policies and advisories as major reform agenda to repair the broken water cycle in town/cities. It involves rainwater harvesting at different scales as well as decentralised wastewater and local reuse and integrates water supply, wastewater, stormwater and groundwater management. WSUDP helps in-situ water augmentation as well as addressing flooding in towns/cities. Hence the approach will not only help in building urban resilience but also improves liveability in towns/cities, particularly when considered part of an overall urban strategy.

Aim
Build a cohort of practitioners and managers (both government and private) who will design and implement WSUDP interventions.

Training Highlights

  • Understand water balance un urban area at different scales to understand key water challenges and potential of mainstreaming WSUDP.
  • Step by step guide to design and plan rainwater harvesting systems (including decentralised wastewater treatment and local reuse
  • O&M and monitoring plan including understanding of life cycle costs, socio – economic and other benefits
  • Existing and upcoming institutional regulatory framework (policies, plan and programmes) for WSUDP
  • Field visit to interact with real implementers and beneficiaries.

Training Design:
The training will follow a mix method approach involving lectures, in-class exercises, interactive discussions and audio-video training support to benchmark a city’s current performance against seven goals of a water sensitive city. The participants will get the opportunity to plan and design water sensitive urban systems including RWH and SUDs as part of ‘Do It Yourself’ – groupexercise.

Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of the training programme.
