Online Training on Environmental Law: DecodingIndia’s evolving Regulatory Framework

India has enacted several landmark environmental laws-including the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986-to prevent and control environmental degradation. Over the years, the country has built a robust legal and regulatory framework to safeguard natural ecosystems and public health.

But as the country races ahead with itsdevelopment agenda, the environmental landscape is shifting just as rapidly with updates rules and advancing tools shaping the way government authorities approach environmental management. With such rapid evolution of environmental frameworks, for anyone working in this space, staying updated is no longer optional - it’s essential.From new waste management rules the growing role of environmental courts, understanding the legal landscape is crucial for anyone engaged in environmental work today.

To address this need, the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is organizing this 10-day online training programme that unpacks environmental regulatory scenario in India. It will address key environmental laws, latest amendments and notifications across these laws, and the practical significance of these laws in driving sustainable environmental governance.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Build a strong foundation in India’s core environmental laws, including the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986; Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981; and Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.
  • Master the principles, institutional structure, and governance mechanisms underpinning India’s environmental regulatory framework.
  • Analyze emerging policies and rules for waste management, including municipal, plastic, and e-waste regulations.
  • Stay updated on wildlife and forest laws, including relevant Acts and notifications.
  • Gain knowledge of processes and protocols for Environmental and CRZ (Coastal Regulation Zone) clearances;
