3 Day Training Programme Towards Sustainable Buildings: Policies and Practices

February 21-23, 2012 CSE orgainised a training programme exclusively for the CPWD officers from different technical backgrounds. The three day programme aimed to deepen the understanding of existing policies, their potential and constraints in promoting efficient use of resources and minimizing waste in public buildings. The programme explored the scope of harmonising the policy-driven and market-driven approaches to accelerate the adoption of resource-efficient practices in buildings.

Without resource efficiency measures this will severely affect liveability of cities The environment impact of this construction boom will be severe as less than 3 per cent of the built-up area today is certified green.

The Supreme Court on May 9 sought a response from the apex food body, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and the states regarding milk adulteration and production of synthetic milk.The three-judge bench sought their response on the public interest petition filed by Swami Achyutanand Tirth on behalf of the Swami Bhumanand Dharmarth Chikitsalya &?Research Institute in Haridwar. Pune has a surplus of water and sewage, polluting its rivers

Pune has an abundance of water from the Khadakwasla dam but its intra-city distribution is extremely uneven. Some areas get as much as 600 litres per capita per day (lpcd) while others get barely 100. This results in enormous quantities of waste water and sewage and despite having an installed capacity to treat 599 million litres a day (MLD) of sewage, its two main rivers, the Mula and Mutha, remain severely polluted.

CSE's 7th State of India Environment Report, Excreta Matters, was released, debated and discussed in Patna at seminar held at A N College on May 25, 2012. The meet was attended by 90 people, including Prem Kumar, Minister of Urban Development, Government of Bihar, along with senior officials of the Bihar Urban Development Corporation, Bihar Jal Parishad, PHED and State Pollution Control Board. Civil society representatives and concerned citizens too were present.

'Excreta Matters' release in Bengaluru

Date: June 28, 2012 The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has recently released its seventh State of India's Environment titled Excreta Matters. In this report we have analysed the water-sewage situation in 71-cities across India, including Bengaluru, to provide decision makers a detailed description of the problems associated with urban India, and to map where cities get their water and where their waste goes. We believe this understanding is critical to find a sustainable and affordable paradigm of urban growth.

Report on Profit Sharing to be released in Ranchi

Centre for Science and Environment’s (CSE) will release their report on profit sharing in Ranchi on August 5, 2011 at 2:30 pm. The report is a detailed analysis of the profit sharing mechanism, international practices being followed in different countries, the need for profit sharing, etc. The report will be released on August 5, 2011 at the Nalanda Hall, Hotel Ranchi Ashok, Doranda, Ranchi, Jharkhand. As such, there can be no buildings without environmental impact. However, buildings can be designed to keep the impact of buildings within the carrying capacity of the local environment.
