Conference on Green Norms for Wind Power

Pune, July 3rd, 2013

In the last decade installation of wind power has increased manifolds in the country. As of March 2013, the total installed capacity of wind power in the country is 19051 MW. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) plans to add 15000 MW of wind power capacity in the 12th five year plan period.

Though wind power has lower environmental impacts compared to fossil fuels, they do have impacts if installed in ecologically sensitive areas. It is for this reason that in many countries, some sort of green norms are put in place during planning, construction and operations of wind power plants. India, however, has not yet mandated any significant green norms for the wind power sector.

To discuss this and other issues, we are organising half a day conference on "Green Norms for Wind Power".

Venue:
Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA), Pune

Date: Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013 (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM)

The meeting will discuss the need for creating safeguards to avoid negative environmental and social impacts of wind power. We are inviting academicians, government officials, private entrepreneurs and NGOs to initiate this very important discussion.

As a basis for the discussion CSE will release its report on the status and possible green norms for wind power.
