Training Programme: Strengthening implementation of on-road vehicle emissions reduction strategies for pollution mitigation

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) invites participation in its 4-day Training Programme on Strengthening implementation of on-road vehicle emissions reduction strategies for pollution mitigation on September 8-11, 2026 at Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI) located in Nimli, Tijara, Alwar district, Rajasthan. This programme represents our initiative to promote good regulatory practices in reducing emissions from on-road and new vehicles through knowledge and experience sharing and capacity building.

Vehicles remain a dominant source of air pollution in our cities. Despite rapidly evolving regulations and measures to curb emissions from new vehicles, thevaston-road legacy fleet remains challenging and continues to lock in enormous amounts of toxic pollution. This legacy fleet lock in particulate matter and short-lived climate pollutants like black carbonenhancing severe public health risks and accelerating regional heating across the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP). While the central government has introduced policies for fleet modernization, on-road emissions and fitness regulations, end-of-life scrappage and electrification, on-ground preparedness for implementation remains uneven and hampered by systemic barriers. This requires understanding of strategies, bridging the gaps and regional coordination for effective implementation and mitigation.

Course highlights

  • Understanding toxic particulate pollution and black carbon challenge from transport sector
  • Emissions standards and vehicle technology roadmap for controlling real world emissions
  • Emissions testing, monitoring, compliance and enforcement in on-road vehicles
  • New generation advanced technologies for real world on-road emissions monitoring including remote OBD and remote sensing
  • Scrappage policy for emissions gains and material recovery
  • Vehicle fleet electrification for zero emissions transition
